TRAINING, SOPs & GUIDANCE
Good services need more than enthusiasm. They need clear training, practical protocols and access to reliable guidance.
This section is designed to help dental nurses and other dental care professionals understand what they can do, what training may be required, which SOP applies, and when advice or referral is needed.
The assistant uses selected professional, regulatory and clinical guidance together with DHS Standard Operating Procedures.
It is intended to make guidance easier to find and understand — not to replace professional judgement or your own responsibility to work within your competence and scope of practice.
ASK THE TRAINING, SOPs & GUIDANCE ASSISTANT
Use the assistant to ask practical questions such as:

• Can I carry out this procedure?
• What training do I need?
• Which SOP should I follow?
• What records should I keep?
• Do I need consent or clinical authorisation?
• When should I refer or escalate?
• What does the current guidance say?

Always check that guidance is current before acting. Where there is uncertainty, the assistant should identify the relevant regulator, professional guidance or senior clinician rather than guess.
