What Is Teledentistry and How Does It Work?
Have you ever wondered how you can get dental care without stepping foot in a clinic? Teledentistry bridges that gap. This innovative approach uses digital technology to provide consultations and certain aspects of care remotely—often through secure video calls and messaging platforms. How It Works: The journey begins when you contact a DCP Dental Care Provider that offers teledentistry services. This can be done online or over the phone. The dental team will use a secure platform to ensure your personal information remains private. Many consultations can be carried out using WhatsApp, which features end-to-end encryption for secure video calls and image sharing. You can use your smartphone or other device for the consultation. It's easy to send photos or video clips of areas of concern, and the app enables real-time communication. Before your virtual appointment, you’ll be asked to provide your dental history, describe any issues, and possibly upload photos of your mouth. If available, previous dental records or X-rays can be helpful. To get the most from your session, prepare any questions you may have and ensure you’re in a well-lit, quiet space for the video call. During the Consultation: The DCP will review your history, images, and symptoms. You can describe your discomfort or concerns and even show problem areas using your device's camera. While a virtual consultation can’t fully replace a hands-on exam, it allows the DCP to: Make an initial assessment Provide home care advice Recommend over-the-counter treatments Decide whether you need to visit a clinic in person Teledentistry also helps triage cases—prioritising care and reducing unnecessary visits. After Your Appointment: You’ll usually receive a summary of recommendations and any next steps. This will be added to your dental records for continuity of care. Follow-up messages may include reminders, advice, or scheduling support. Important Notes: Payment is made directly to the DCP providing the service. If you're in the UK, you can verify that the person treating you is registered with the General Dental Council (GDC)by checking www.gdc-uk.org Teledentistry is especially useful for people facing mobility issues, time constraints, or limited local access—but it is intended to complement, not replace, in-person dental care. Always consult a qualified dental professional for personalised advice about your oral health. |

Modern Dentistry: Faster, Greener, and More Accessible
This video highlights the power of digital dentistry and how new technologies—once limited to specialist clinics—can now be used by trained dental nurses and made accessible to everyone. We’re promoting the use of AI to interpret dental X-rays, producing accurate, consistent reports that can support diagnosis and care planning. With the right training, **dental nurses can help deliver this service efficiently**, reducing costs and increasing access. Digital dentistry also allows us to: Reproduce existing dentures or create new ones from scans. Provide gumshields, retainers, night guards, bleaching trays, and anti-snoring devices via digital prescriptions—much like ordering glasses online. Deliver quicker, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly solutions by using intraoral scanners, AI, and 3D printing. over 14 Years ago, I used a milling machines to produce white crowns Vilkscrowns on the NHS in a single visit—avoiding the traditional two-visit metal crown process as shown at the start at the video. Today’s technology has advanced dramatically: Modern scanners are a fraction of the cost and far more accurate than early models. Software improvementshave made scanning easier and more accessible. A dental nurse can now perform a scan, and the system itself will indicate if it's insufficient—no identification needed for the operator. With the rise of 3D printing, we can now manufacture custom-fit devices like retainers, mouthguards, and snoring appliances with precision and speed. These services should be as straightforward as ordering from an online optician. 👉 Ask your dentist for a scan—if they can’t offer digital solutions, look for a practice that can. We can securely store your X-rays, photos, and dental scans, allowing us to monitor and learn from dental treatments over time. With your consent, sharing this digital data can contribute to long-term research and improve dental care for future generations. |

Denture Fabrication: A Modern Perspective
Since the NHS was introduced in 1948, the process of making dentures has seen little change. While impression materials have evolved, they are often messy and not environmentally friendly. Digital scanners have proven effective, particularly when used to scan a denture before it’s lost. They excel at supporting the design of partial dentures crafted by digital technicians, contributing to a growing service area. Dental nurses are permitted to scan the mouth, as well as existing dentures. Below, we highlight some of the innovative products available now and in the future. |
Denture Making: Bridging Patient and Dentist Expectations
Making dentures can be a challenge for both patients and dentists. What we consider ideal may not align with the public's perceptions—many find dentures uncomfortable, too large or small, have the wrong bite, or feel they're overpriced.
Adjusting to new dentures takes time; several weeks are often necessary for readjustments until they feel comfortable and look satisfying.
It's crucial to get a scan of a denture you're happy with during this period. We can store the scan until your denture is lost, or we can make a replica with a fresher appearance for you now. You may find a dentist or denturist who can modify your current denture using a hybrid method of old analogue, and new digital techniques to give an optimum result.

Advancements in 3D Printing Technology for Dentures
3D printing technology is rapidly advancing, especially in dentistry. Recent scanners can now create complete dentures in a range of colors. Previously, the gum and teeth portions had to be made separately and glued together manually, increasing costs. The typical method for enhancing aesthetics was to paint the dentures, as the teeth were originally only available in one color. Now, we can even customize the color of different teeth on the new printers, making them cheaper, and more aesthetic in a rapidly evolving field. Ordering a gum shield online from your scan is quicker than scheduling an appointment with the dentist before your next rugby game! You just need a scan of your teeth |
These are the kind of options available a year ago in the UK.
And these are available abroad.
The aim of the website is to encourage the dental team to use scanners more, as they have a huge role to play in prevention and minimal invasive dentistry. For those who want cosmetic venners, which for the majority cause more ongonig costs and fails, you can use the scanning and printers to make longer lasting robust veneers at a reduced cost, as well as fillings and crowns in a single visit.
